Ramallah, November 29, 2025 (WAFA) – Today, November 29, marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which the United Nations observes every year, coinciding with the day on which the General Assembly adopted Resolution No. (181) on partition.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People has gained double importance over the past two years, with the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip due to the genocidal war launched by the occupation army on October 7, 2023, which left more than 160,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world, and the escalation of attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
In condemnation of these massacres, thousands of demonstrations, vigils and events were organized in the streets and main squares, and in universities and schools, in many capitals and cities around the world .
Alongside the popular movement, international solidarity emerged in filing lawsuits against the occupation and its officials in the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, cutting diplomatic relations with the occupation regime, leading to a series of recognitions of the State of Palestine, and the issuance of two arrest warrants against the head of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant .
On this day, cultural events, political festivals, and public solidarity events are held by solidarity movements and political committees, in addition to Palestinian embassies and those who believe in the justice of the Palestinian cause .
In response to a call from the United Nations, governments and civil societies annually carry out various activities to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. These activities include issuing special messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people, holding meetings, distributing publications and other media materials, and screening films .
At the United Nations headquarters in New York, the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People holds a special session annually to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity .
The Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat publishes annually a special bulletin containing the texts of statements made and messages received on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity. Among other activities organized in New York as part of the celebration of the International Day of Solidarity are a Palestinian exhibition or cultural event sponsored by the Committee and organized by the Mission of Palestine to the United Nations, and film screenings .
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an opportunity to draw the attention of the international community to the fact that the Palestinian issue remains unresolved to this day, despite the passage of decades and the issuance of many relevant international resolutions, and that the Palestinian people have not yet obtained their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely the right to self-determination without any external interference, like the rest of the peoples of the earth, the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, and the right of Palestinians to return to their homes and properties from which they were expelled .
On November 29, 2012, Palestine joined the United Nations as a “non-member observer state,” and on September 30, 2015, the Palestinian flag was raised in front of United Nations headquarters and offices around the world .
