In light of the circumstances surrounding the Gift of Dignity, the young man, Mustafa Awwad, from Tamra in the occupied Palestinian territory, will have his case decided by the Central Occupation Court in Haifa today, Thursday.

Awwad was detained outside of his residence in May 2021, and he is now facing accusations of “terrorism” and involvement in the attack on a Jew from “Mitzpe Aviv” while he was in Tamra.

On March 8, 2022, Awwad was granted release under stringent conditions that included being expelled from Tamra, having an electronic handcuff placed on his hand, posting bail for three people at the condition that each of them pay 100,000 shekels in the event that the conditions were broken, as well as providing 25,000 shekels as a guarantee from his father and a permanent escort. He accompanied his son during deportation and through the end of the legal process before being detained once more on February 20, 2023, after being found guilty.

Mustafa Awwad was found guilty by the Haifa occupation court, but Ahmed Merih was found not guilty on February 20.

In addition, Ibrahim Merih is serving a 5-year sentence while Muhammad Abu al-Haija, Muhammad Abu Roumi, and Baha Abu al-Haija all face 7 years in prison.

In May 2021, against the backdrop of demonstrations against the invasion of Gaza, the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque attempts to evict residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, and settler attacks on Arab citizens of the nation, the occupation police and the General Security Service (Shin Bet) launched a campaign of arrests against hundreds of young men from the Arab community.
