Israeli extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir attacked Turkish actor Görkem Sevindik after he defended Palestinian prisoners.
The Turkish actor said after a tweet on the “X” platform: “As a person with a living conscience, I am against this injustice. As an artist and a father, I have expressed my feelings.”
The Israeli Knesset passed a law allowing the imposition of the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners.
Under this law, thousands of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons face the death penalty without the possibility of parole or appeal.
Actor Sevindik, who plays Kadir Baba in the series “Ashraf Roya,” wrote of his regret: “The death sentences of 12,000 Palestinian prisoners have been approved, 4,000 of whom are children…”
Sevindik said: “Please don’t be silent. If humanity doesn’t rise up today, when will it? If we can’t prove our humanity today, when will we? Please don’t be silent. Spread the word. Oppose these executions…”
The actor’s post angered Security Minister Ben-Gvir, who tweeted: “You will never be Kadir Baba. We live in Israel. You can act in Turkish soap operas. The death penalty is now in effect for terrorists.”
Following this, many social media users who support Israeli policies sent threatening messages to the Turkish actor and called for a boycott of the series. In contrast, Turkish digital media users sided with Görkem Sevindik in this debate, which centered on Israel.
The actor said: “Every conscious and moral person in the world should oppose war. Our series is very popular there, and I think I am a beloved character. It is true that my awareness and reaction disappointed them, but I acted in a natural way.”Execution of prisoners
