Jerusalem, March 8, 2026 (WAFA) – Extremist Temple Mount groups have launched an escalating campaign to impose the so-called “Passover sacrifice” inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, exploiting the mosque’s continued closure during Ramadan. This is part of their efforts to impose animal sacrifices during the Jewish Passover holiday, which falls between April 1 and 8, 2026, approximately 12 days after Eid al-Fitr.
In this context, the Jerusalem Governorate stated that Elkana Wolfson, from the so-called “Temple Mount Religious School,” and the son of its rabbi Elisha Wolfson, published an advertisement designed using artificial intelligence showing the sacrifice feast after its slaughter, with a depiction of the alleged “Temple” being erected in place of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Meanwhile, the so-called “Temple Institute” published a picture of the animal sacrifice feast with the Dome of the Rock behind it, in front of which a religious altar had been erected, accompanied by a comment saying that “establishing the Temple in one month may be a difficult task, but building the altar and renewing the sacrifice is possible,” in an explicit call to try to impose the sacrifice inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque this year .
The Jerusalem Governorate said that this comes in light of dangerous precedents witnessed in 2025, when three attempts were made to bring a small animal into the Al-Aqsa Mosque or to bring in meat cut from it, in unprecedented developments since the occupation of Jerusalem .
The governorate indicated that these data point to an escalation in the efforts of the “Temple” groups to impose animal sacrifices inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in light of the growing influence of the religious Zionist movement within the occupation police, especially after the appointment of the extremist Avshalom Peled as commander of the occupation police in Jerusalem before the month of Ramadan.
It is worth noting that the occupation authorities continue to close the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque for the ninth day in a row, under the pretext of declaring a state of emergency, amidst a heavy deployment of their forces in its vicinity and the gates of the Old City of occupied Jerusalem.
