The Tunisian Network for Confronting Normalization announced Sunday evening the launch of a week-long “steadfastness” sit-in in front of the US embassy in Tunis, protesting US support for the war of extermination in the Gaza Strip.
Dozens of activists from the Tunisian Network to Confront the Normalization System and the Coordination of Joint Action for Palestine participated in the launch of the sit-in.
“We are now in front of the US embassy in a sit-in, starting Sunday and extending until next Saturday,” said network spokesman Salah Al-Masry.
On the sidelines of the sit-in, Al-Masry added, “The message of the sit-in is to support our Palestinian people and to affirm that we are with them and we continually salute them for their great steadfastness. This is where the word ‘steadfastness’ came from.”
He continued, “Our protest continues in condemnation of the American crime. The world knows that America is the one committing genocide against our children in Palestine, so we are here to protest and condemn the American role.”
Al-Masry stressed that “the steadfastness sit-in is also a reference to the global steadfastness fleet, and its primary goals include supporting the fleet, monitoring its course across the sea, and preparing to defend its fighters if it is subjected to any aggression by the Zionist entity.”
He said: “Our comrades and brothers (in the fleet) are confronting the Zionist enemy at sea, and here on land we are protesting against the Zionists’ partner.”
In a statement delivered at the start of the sit-in, the network said: “We announce a sit-in of steadfastness in front of the US embassy in Tunis, starting Sunday and continuing until next Saturday.”
She stressed that “the sit-in comes in protest against the crimes of the siege and the escalating genocide committed by the American and Zionist enemies against our Palestinian people.”
She added, “The sit-in is also a protest against the American and Zionist attacks and cowardly assassinations against the Arab and regional support fronts and their leaders (Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran).”
According to the network, the sit-in also comes “in support of the Steadfastness Flotilla, which is trying to break the siege, and in preparation for defending it against any Zionist folly against its fighters.”
She called on her country’s authorities to “criminalize normalization with the Zionist enemy, seriously confront all its manifestations, and hold those involved accountable.”
It also called on it to “stop all forms of military and technical cooperation with the aggression regime, especially NATO and America, in addition to freezing Tunisian-American relations.”
