Gaza, December 29, 2025 (WAFA) – The prevailing weather conditions and the intensifying impact of the low-pressure system have exacerbated the suffering of displaced people in the Gaza Strip, as the winds destroyed their tents, and the low-pressure system exposed them to the risk of drowning and illness, in light of the lack of resources and the absence of means of protection from the cold and rain.
Water flooded tents sheltering displaced people in low-lying areas, while winds uprooted other tents, forcing families, including children, to go out into the open in cold weather .
The floods have affected more than a quarter of a million displaced people, out of about 1.5 million living in tents and rudimentary shelters that do not provide the minimum level of protection.
The displaced people are facing harsh conditions amid bitter cold and strong winds, as thousands live in tents made of nylon and thin fabric, lacking the most basic means of protection from rain and storms, with most of them residing in streets, playgrounds, public squares and schools, without any means to protect them from the cold and storms.
Strong winds and heavy rain caused a number of tents of displaced people to flood and others to be blown away in various areas of the Gaza Strip, especially in Khan Younis, due to a low-pressure system hitting the Strip, exacerbating the suffering of tens of thousands of Palestinian families .
Several residential buildings damaged by previous Israeli bombing during the months of extermination also collapsed due to rain and wind.
The lack of fuel exacerbates the crisis, as families find themselves unable to secure any means of heating in light of the drop in temperatures at night, which has negatively affected many children, with a number of them dying.
Citizens often resort to living in dilapidated, crumbling buildings due to a lack of options, after the occupying army destroyed most of the buildings and prevented the entry of mobile homes and building and reconstruction materials.
Since the onset of the storms in Gaza this December, 17 citizens, including 4 children, have died, while about 90% of the shelters for displaced people whose homes were destroyed by Israel have been flooded.
