Ramallah – Safa
The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the Palestinian Territories, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein, head of the Supreme Fatwa Council, announced Wednesday evening that Thursday will be the last day of the holy month of Ramadan, and therefore Friday will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
The Mufti said: “In the meeting held by the Palestinian Fatwa House at its headquarters in Jerusalem to follow up on the sighting of the crescent of the month of Shawwal for this year 1447 AH, in the presence of a group of religious scholars and prominent figures, and based on the estimates of astronomers inside and outside Palestine regarding the birth of the crescent of the month of Shawwal and the possibilities of seeing it, it was not possible to see the crescent of the month of Shawwal tonight. Therefore, tomorrow, Thursday, March 19, 2026, will be the completion of the month of Ramadan, and the day after tomorrow, Friday, March 20, 2026, will be the day of Eid al-Fitr. May God accept our good deeds and the good deeds of all those who fasted.”
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday evening that the crescent moon of Shawwal could not be sighted, so Thursday will be the last day of Ramadan, and Friday, March 20, 2026, will be the first day of Shawwal and the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
In the same context, the crescent sighting committees in both the United Arab Emirates and Qatar issued official statements confirming that tomorrow, Thursday, is the thirtieth day of Ramadan, and that Friday is the first day of Eid, after it became impossible to prove the sighting of the crescent with the naked eye or through astronomical devices.
Among the most prominent countries that announced Friday as the first day of Eid are: the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar, and Turkey (based on astronomical calculations).#Eid Ramadan
