The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, revealed on Sunday that Israel had bombed 10 UNRWA buildings in Gaza City in the past four days alone, including seven schools and two clinics currently being used as shelters for thousands of displaced people.
This came in a post by the UN organization on the X platform, quoting Lazzarini, in which she stated that “nowhere and no one is safe in Gaza City and its north, as the intensity of airstrikes increases, forcing more Palestinians to flee into the unknown.”
Commenting on the situation in Gaza City, he said, “We were forced to suspend healthcare in Beach Camp, the only one available north of Wadi Gaza, while our vital water and sanitation services are now operating at only half capacity.”
The UN official added: “In the past four days alone, 10 UNRWA buildings have been targeted in Gaza City, including seven schools and two clinics currently being used as shelters for thousands of displaced people.”
He pointed out that UNRWA teams, numbering 11,000 personnel, continue to provide vital services in other parts of northern Gaza and the rest of the Gaza Strip.
Lazzarini stressed that these teams are committed to serving their communities despite all the difficulties, even as they live under extremely inhumane conditions.
“The determination of the UN teams to confront these inhumane conditions is a source of inspiration,” he added.
“How long will it take to take action to achieve an immediate ceasefire?” Lazzarini concluded.
