The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed on Tuesday a plan to build 1,400 settlement units on the land where UNRWA headquarters is located in occupied East Jerusalem. The newspaper, according to a translation by the Safa news agency, said that there is a plan to build 1,400 settlement units on the land where the UNRWA headquarters was built, which was demolished this morning in East Jerusalem. The headquarters covers an area of 42 dunams, and it comes as part of a project aimed at changing the nature of the place and using it for settlement purposes.
The newspaper explained that the “Israel Land Authority” is planning to evacuate the UNRWA headquarters in the Kafr Aqab neighborhood, in a move aimed at ending its presence inside Jerusalem. This morning, Israeli bulldozers, accompanied by the so-called “Israel Land Authority,” demolished mobile offices inside the UNRWA compound in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate stated: “The demolition operations constitute a direct targeting of a UN agency that enjoys international legal immunity, especially with the occupation’s action of lowering the UN flag and raising the Israeli flag inside the compound, under the pretext of lack of a permit, in flagrant violation of the sanctity of international institutions.
