The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Thursday that more than 650,000 children are deprived of education in the Gaza Strip for the third consecutive year.
“In Gaza, children are out of school for the third year in a row,” UNRWA said on the US social media site X. “For some 660,000 girls and boys, returning to learning is not just about education, but also about beginning to heal from profound trauma.”
UNRWA, as the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza, added that it stands ready to support them.
“UNRWA’s priority is educating children and resuming their education,” said Tamara Al-Rifai, UNRWA’s Director of External Relations.
Since October 2023, Israeli massacres have killed nearly 68,000 Palestinians in the Strip, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that the attacks resulted in the partial or total destruction of 97% of school buildings in Gaza.
