Occupied Jerusalem – Translated by Safa
Channel 14 Hebrew confirmed that the US Consulate in occupied Jerusalem opened a branch in a settlement in the occupied West Bank for the first time since 1967.
The channel, according to a translation by the Safa news agency, said that the consulate opened its branch in the Efrat settlement within the Gush Etzion bloc south of Bethlehem.
The channel noted that the decision represents a fundamental change in the American position and an implicit recognition of Israeli sovereignty in the West Bank.
The Hebrew website “Kipa” reported that the American consulate will open an office in the settlement of “Efrat” within the “Gush Etzion” bloc in the southern West Bank, in a move that reflects the major change in the American position on the occupied territories of 1967 and is considered an implicit recognition of Israeli sovereignty there.
The website stated that the move carries significant political implications, as the presence of the consulate inside a settlement in the West Bank represents a change in the American approach to the issue of the occupation of the 1967 territories. Consequently, the United States is moving towards a policy different from that which it has pursued over the past years regarding the legal status of the West Bank.
This comes in the wake of recent decisions by the Israeli occupation government that will lead to full Israeli control over the West Bank.Efrat settlement, Bethlehem, US Consulate in Jerusalem
