West Bank – Special to Safa
An expert on settlement affairs warns of a wave of field executions, in light of the crimes committed by settlers in recent days, and the shift of attacks from burning houses and assaulting farmers and lands to the stage of direct killings.
Seven citizens were killed and others were injured during the month of Ramadan by settlers’ gunfire in the West Bank, while a number of mosques and homes were burned and dozens of citizens were assaulted, in a remarkable shift in the nature, tools and results of their crimes.
Settlement expert Salah Khawaja told Safa News Agency that what is happening in the West Bank at the hands of settlers, including shootings while dressed in the uniform of the occupation army, as happened in the village of Abu Falah, reflects this shift.
He adds, “The towns of Kisan, east of Bethlehem, the southern Hebron area, the village of Qaryut, and the town of Qusra witnessed the most violent attacks, resulting in the martyrdom of one person and the injury of his father. These are living proofs of this criminal wave.”
In light of this, Al-Khawaja believes that the settlers, in light of the aggression and ongoing war in the region, have “gone off their heads” and have begun training in what is called “street warfare” and the use of weapons.
He points out that these moves coincide with the demands of the powerful occupation security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, to expand the arming operations in Jerusalem and the West Bank areas, which puts the Palestinians in front of a wave that may be the cheapest and most dangerous, which is represented by starting raids on villages near the settlements and carrying out direct field executions.
This systematic behavior is similar to what the Stern and Haganah groups did before 1948, when they organized themselves and attacked the Palestinian people, committing hundreds of massacres, says Khawaja.
He emphasizes that the current reality goes beyond mere analysis or assessment, as things are being run according to a clear strategy by the settlers aimed at displacement, imposing sovereignty, and Judaization.
He also warns of major massacres being committed in light of international silence and attempts by some to bypass the Palestinian issue.
What the situation requires
From his point of view, the current situation urgently requires the Palestinian cause to move away from internal preoccupations and adopt a unified confrontation strategy that strengthens the people’s resilience.
He emphasizes the importance of joint action to strengthen protection committees and adopt the idea of civil disobedience, while declaring the state under occupation, and harnessing all capabilities to protect the Palestinian people in the West Bank from imminent massacres.
He asserts that the current stage is one of conflict and struggle, not a stage of resolution.#Settlers gangs
