At least 10 ships from the Global Steadfastness Flotilla, attempting to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip, were attacked by drones early Wednesday morning, with explosions heard.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, said that seven drone attacks targeted the Steadfastness Flotilla ships in the Mediterranean, after 15 drones hovered over several ships in the flotilla heading to Gaza to break the ongoing Israeli blockade of the Palestinian enclave.
Albanese called for immediate protection for the ships of the Steadfastness Fleet, as they have been repeatedly subjected to attacks.
The committee overseeing the Global Resilience Flotilla reported on its social media platforms that 13 explosions and widespread communications disruption were detected onboard the fleet’s vessels. It added that unidentified objects were dropped on 10 vessels, causing damage.
The committee noted that Israel is waging a disinformation campaign to justify a potential military attack, and considered any attack on the humanitarian convoy a war crime and a violation of international law.
Earlier, an Al Jazeera correspondent reported from aboard one of the ships of the Steadfastness Flotilla that drones dropped an unknown substance with the smell of gunpowder onto a number of ships, without causing any casualties.
This is not the first time that aircraft have flown over the flotilla’s ships. Two days ago, reconnaissance drones again flew over several ships of the Global Steadfastness Flotilla, which is trying to break the siege on the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to an ongoing Israeli genocide for nearly two years.
The Steadfastness Fleet previously announced that its ships in the Mediterranean Sea were subjected to drone attacks on the 8th and 9th of this month, without reporting any material damage or human casualties.
