On the occasion of Palestinian Prisoner’s Day, which falls on April 17, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) affirmed that the issue of solidarity with prisoners and working to liberate them will remain a just national and global issue, and it is at the top of the movement’s priorities, which will spare no effort or means to fulfill its obligations to them and secure their freedom .
The movement explained in a statement received by the Safa news agency on Friday that this anniversary comes amid a tragic reality experienced by about 9,500 Palestinian prisoners , including more than 300 children and 84 women, in addition to about 1,500 detainees from the Gaza Strip who have been held in secret centers since October 7, 2023.
She pointed out that these detainees are subjected to the most heinous forms of physical and psychological torture and enforced disappearance, which has led to dozens of them becoming martyrs behind bars .
Hamas stressed that the occupation government’s approval of the “execution of prisoners” law reveals once again its racism and the brutality of its crimes, considering this a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The movement held the occupation fully responsible for the lives and safety of the prisoners and abductees, stressing that these crimes will not break the prisoners’ resolve, will not be forgotten with the passage of time, and their perpetrators will not escape punishment .
Hamas called on the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to take urgent action to stop the occupation’s crimes, and to enable international investigation committees to visit prisons, examine the conditions of prisoners, and pressure for their release .
The movement called on all Palestinian factions to unite their efforts and join forces to protect the prisoners and care for their families in a manner befitting their sacrifices , appreciating the popular movement in the world’s capitals that rejects the death penalty law, and calling for the continuation of this momentum to strengthen the isolation of the fascist entity .
Hamas called on the Palestinian people, the nation, and the free people of the world to make April 17th an international day of solidarity with the prisoners, and an opportunity to join forces to pressure the occupation to abolish the unjust laws and stop the horrific violations until the prisoners gain their full freedom .
