Occupied Jerusalem – SafaFor the sixteenth consecutive day, the Israeli occupation forces continue to close the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, preventing worshippers from being present in it during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan, under the pretext of declaring a “state of emergency” due to the American-Israeli war on Iran.Calls are escalating from Jerusalem and Palestine for people to gather and travel to Al-Aqsa Mosque to commemorate the 27th night of Ramadan (Laylat al-Qadr), in direct defiance of the occupation’s decision to close the mosque and prevent prayer there. The calls emphasized the need to revive the Night of Power in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to break the occupation’s decision to prevent prayer in it.Observers believe that the Palestinian insistence on reviving Laylat al-Qadr at Al-Aqsa represents a decisive message against attempts to restrict the permanent Islamic presence at the mosque. For his part, Sheikh Akrama Sabri, head of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem, stressed that staying in the vicinity of the mosque and heading towards it is a religious and national duty to emphasize the rejection of the occupation’s measures.Sabri warned that the continued closure aims to impose a new reality and absolute control over the rituals of Muslims inside their mosque. In this context, the occupation forces set up iron barricades at the gates of the Old City of occupied Jerusalem and prevented residents from crossing except for those who are residents of the city.On Saturday evening, worshippers performed the Isha and Taraweeh prayers in the courtyard of the Rashidiya School in Jerusalem, after the occupation forces prevented them from praying in front of Bab al-Sahira, as had happened in previous days.Occupation soldiers spread out around Bab al-Sahira and prevented worshippers from being present there.Worshippers continue to insist on performing prayers at the closest possible point to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, given its continued closure since February 28.The voices of the Waqf employees, who were allowed by the occupation forces to enter Al-Aqsa, resounded with Ramadan chants from the minarets in the absence of worshippers and its continued closure. The Jerusalem Governorate stated that Jewish extremists are continuing their incitement campaigns against the Al-Aqsa Mosque, while it remains closed during the last ten days of Ramadan. The governorate explained in a statement that the extremist rabbi Baruch Marzel published an AI-generated image showing an aircraft base under the Al-Aqsa Mosque, accompanied by a sarcastic comment claiming the existence of a “secret air force base in Jerusalem,” in a move considered a dangerous incitement that paves the way for justifying targeting Al-Aqsa.
