Jeddah, January 29, 2026 (WAFA) – The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ambassador Hadi Shibli, participated in the second session of the Ministerial Council of the Green Middle East Initiative, which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the participation of 31 regional countries from the continents of Asia and Africa, in addition to the participation of the United Kingdom as an observer .
The State of Palestine’s delegation to the meeting included First Counselor Nassim Za’anin and Second Secretary Athar Omari .
The Middle East Green Initiative aims to promote regional cooperation in addressing the effects of climate change, through the implementation of strategic projects and plans that include planting 50 billion trees, rehabilitating 200 million hectares of degraded land in the countries of the region, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving environmental quality, enhancing biodiversity, supporting sustainable development, and providing economic and social opportunities for local communities .
This ministerial meeting is an important milestone in the initiative’s journey to move from the foundational stage to the implementation stage of its environmental projects, through the exchange of experiences and lessons learned, and the coordination of efforts between participating countries, which contributes to raising the level of climate action in the region .
The participation of the State of Palestine’s delegation in this meeting comes as a confirmation of the State of Palestine’s commitment to the Arab and international positions supporting regional efforts to combat climate change and achieve environmental sustainability goals, as these are priority issues in protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable development paths .
