New York, January 29, 2026 (WAFA) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed the need to implement the ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip.
Guterres added during a press conference on Thursday that the ceasefire in Gaza is described as a “reduction in firing” without a complete cessation of hostilities.
He stressed the need to move to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which means the complete withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces, and paving the way for the implementation of the two-state solution .
The Secretary-General said that the primary responsibility for international peace and security rests with the Security Council, which is the only body that can adopt binding resolutions for all and authorize the use of force in accordance with international law .
He also affirmed his strong opposition to all measures taken by the occupation forces to undermine the two-state solution, specifically in the West Bank, through the construction of settlements, the demolition of homes, the displacement of citizens, and the escalation of settler violence.
Guterres stressed the need to stop these practices and to create the conditions for Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to become the future State of Palestine .
