The storm caused thousands of tents to be flooded and blown away, exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.
Ramallah, December 28, 2025 (WAFA) – The Government Operations Room said that the Gaza Strip needs about 200,000 prefabricated housing units to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the displaced and to ensure safer shelter in the face of harsh weather conditions.
The government operations room added in a press statement on Sunday that the current low-pressure system caused thousands of tents of displaced people in various parts of the sector to be flooded and blown away, exacerbating the humanitarian emergency.
The statement indicated that the coastal Rashid Street, which extends for about 26 km, was flooded, and the tents of displaced people erected along the street were damaged by the sea waves accompanying the low-pressure system.
She stressed that the harsh weather conditions have compounded the suffering of displaced Palestinians living in flimsy tents that do not provide the minimum protection from rainwater leaks or the bitter cold, noting that collapses have been recorded in partially destroyed houses, posing a direct threat to the lives of their inhabitants, in the absence of safe alternatives for shelter.
She explained that humanitarian organizations are unable to meet the urgent needs of the displaced, due to the severe shortage of supplies and the continued restrictions imposed by the occupation on the entry of aid into the sector.
The United Nations and international institutions were urged to pressure the Israeli occupation to allow the immediate entry of prefabricated housing units and shelter supplies, in order to alleviate the suffering of the displaced and reduce the risks to their lives.
