The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, said that the support of some countries for Israel’s policies related to occupation and settlement has later turned into genocide against the Palestinian people.
This came in a speech on Tuesday, via video conference, during a meeting of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (Third Committee) of the United Nations, at the UN headquarters in New York.
Albanese added that she was unable to participate in person at the UN meeting because of the sanctions imposed on her by the United States.
Last July, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against Albanese, who documented the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in several reports and called for the prosecution of the parties and individuals involved.
She noted that there are more than 240,000 Palestinians among the martyrs and wounded as a result of the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, while thousands of them are still missing, either under the rubble of homes or inside Israeli prisons.
