Khalil al-Hayya, head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip, said Saturday evening that his movement’s weapons are linked to the existence of occupation and aggression, and if the occupation ends, these weapons will revert to the state.
During his interview with Al Jazeera, Al-Hayya indicated that the issue of weapons is still under discussion with the factions and mediators, and that the agreement is still in its early stages.
He affirmed the acceptance of UN forces as a separation and border monitoring force and a follow-up to the ceasefire in Gaza.
Al-Hayya added that the occupation had failed to achieve its goals over the course of two years of war.
He continued: “President Trump said the war is over, and every day we hear American statements that the war is over.”
Regarding the exchange deal, Al-Hayya explained that the resistance finally handed over 20 Israelis 72 hours after the ceasefire, as well as 17 of the 28 bodies of the occupation’s prisoners.
He pointed out that new areas will be entered on Sunday to search for some of the bodies of the occupation’s prisoners.
Al-Hayya explained that Hamas has no reservations about any national figure residing in Gaza to manage the Strip.
He said, “We agreed with all factions that the UN’s mission is to rebuild Gaza.”
He added, “We want to go to the elections as a prelude to reuniting the national ranks.”
He pointed out that targeting Doha and the unprecedented and disastrous failure in Israel’s history represented a setback for the occupation.
Al-Hayya stressed that the prisoners’ cause is a national one par excellence, and that efforts are underway to end their suffering. He added that the occupation has been intransigent regarding many of the prisoners’ names, and that efforts in this regard have not yet concluded.
He stated that Gaza needs 6,000 aid trucks per day, not just 600, and that the occupation is obstructing the entry of some materials into Gaza.
