
UNICEF spokesperson Tess Ingram warned of the risk of famine worsening in Gaza City and spreading to the central Gaza Strip within weeks if urgent action is not taken.In an interview with Anadolu Agency on Sunday, Ingram said that the risk of famine spreading in Gaza City is real.She stressed that families are no longer able to provide food for their children, and that the situation in the Gaza Strip has become “catastrophic.”She noted that Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, particularly those east and north of Gaza City, are living under constant threat from escalating Israeli bombardment.She added, “Palestinians in those areas are fleeing the bombing westward toward the sea, where the number of camps and tents is increasing along the coastal strip.”She explained that hospital directors informed her of an increase in the number of children suffering from fractures, burns, and wounds as a result of Israeli bombing in recent days.Ingram noted that many Palestinians in Gaza City are considering moving south, but they realize that conditions there are similar, with food and clean water scarcity and ongoing bombing.”There is no safe place in Gaza,” she said.She pointed out that the United Nations confirmed the existence of famine in Gaza on August 22, noting that the situation has not changed since then.Ingram warned that famine could spread to the center of the Strip within weeks if urgent action is not taken.Describing the situation in Gaza, the UN official said: “People are desperately searching for food and water. I met parents holding my hands, crying, asking, ‘When will the food arrive? Will our child survive until then?’ The situation is a complete catastrophe.”She noted that health and humanitarian workers and journalists have been warning of famine in Gaza for months, “but nothing has changed.
