Hundreds of Moroccans demonstrated in the northern cities of Marrakesh and Meknes on Thursday evening, demanding an end to Israel’s war of genocide and starvation against Palestinians in Gaza. They also demonstrated in support of the global steadfastness flotilla heading to the Strip to break the blockade. The two demonstrations were called for by the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, with the participation of activists, human rights defenders, and citizens from various backgrounds.Participants in both demonstrations raised slogans in support of the Global Steadfastness Flotilla, which aims to break the siege on Gaza.Among the slogans chanted were: “Palestine resists,” “No, no to starvation and no to genocide,” “Oh martyr, rest easy, we will continue the struggle,” and “Shame on you, Gaza is being destroyed.”Participants denounced Western, particularly American, support for Israel, which is committing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. They condemned Israeli starvation, attempts to displace Palestinians from their lands, and the continued targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip. On Sunday, approximately 20 ships as part of the “Resilience Fleet” set sail from the Spanish port of Barcelona, followed by another convoy at dawn on Monday from the port of Genoa in northwestern Italy. These ships are expected to meet up with another convoy departing from Tunisia on September 4 (the departure from Tunisia has not yet been announced), before continuing their journey towards Gaza in the coming days. The flotilla consists of the Freedom Flotilla Federation, the Global Gaza Movement, the Steadfastness Flotilla, and the Malaysian “Sumud Nusantara” organization.
